And sorry everyone else...I'm outraged! I have the 700 Club on often because it's just on after the Today show. Now I'm a Christian and I love Jesus, but Pat Robertson can drive me insane. Why is he giving nutritional advice? Come on, Pat! Some watcher just called in asking if they should eat margarine or butter. Pat told them that "The American Cancer Society would recommend they eat trans-fat free margarine instead of butter because of the trans-fats in butter."
Sorry, Pat...butter has no trans fats. Did the American Cancer Society tell you what color margarine is before they bleach, deoderize, and dye it? Grey.
maybe he should use just a "Pat" of butter? ha ha, bad joke.
Maybe he will have his staff tell him...ah, Pat...you made a boo boo.

I am in the same boat - love Jesus, but Pat Robertson drives me crazy. Him and a few others.

Oh my gosh. I just read the first comment above- the one with the "Pat of butter" comment in it. I knew it was your mom's comment before I even read the name! She has my dad's exact same silly sense of humor!

Sometimes people just go too far, especially when they don't know what they are talking about. I must say though that we do use Earth Balance as a margarine substitute. It fills in that lovely childhood memory of eating margarine. The things we did as kids eh? My favorite butter I have come across is actually Trader's Joes organic butter.

I came over to your blog from Apron Thrift Girl .. .we are a "butter" family all the way. Reading thru your posts ... great stuff!

I couldn't agree with you more. We are certainly not health nuts, but even I know that butter is a better alternative.

Here's the sneaky thing: dairy products have natural "trans" fats, which are not anything like the toxic artificial ones in hydrogenated oil/margarine. It seems the natural "trans" shaped fats in dairy might actually be beneficial. But some people don't know the difference between real food and fake poison. Like Pat Robertson.
I did a blogpost on this a while back. It's here: http://crabappleherbs.com/blog/2007/03/15/trans-fat-update-bureaucracy-marketing-bad-food/
